Monday 20 January

European Parliament: AFET will discuss a framework agreement with Switzerland; Indonesia; Balkans; Arms Trade Treaty. DEVE will discuss an end to torture; Syria; South Sudan; Greenland; European Year of Development.

DG MARE: Commission will present an action plan to develop renewable ocean energy.

Foreign Affairs Council: The Council will discuss the situation in the Central African Republic, including providing greater support through the Common Security and Defence Policy; preparations the Syrian peace conference scheduled for 22nd January; South Sudan; EU engagement in Afghanistan after 2014; discussions on suspending EU sanctions against Iran; a debate on the EU’s strategic partner Russia; in addition, there will be a meeting of the EU-Iraq Cooperation Council.

EP event: European Friends of Israel, series of meetings on the European Union and the Middle East (Syria, Iran, Israel/PA) #euefi

DG ENTR: Commission will present a Communication for a European Industrial Renaissance and internal market for industrial products.

DG ENER and DG CLIMA: Launch of the 2030 framework for EU climate change and energy policies.

Thursday 23 January

European Parliament debates: ECON discuss benchmarks in financial instruments and financial contracts; enhancing the coherence, link to agenda; money market funds; European Long-term investment funds. ENVI discuss air pollution; novel foods; food from clones. ITRE discuss nuclear safety; benchmarks indices; aviation emission trading; presentation on the consequence of REACH for SMEs. IMCO discuss network and information security; access to the profession; European single market for electronic communications.

Informal meeting of ministers for Justice and Home Affairs, Athens

Ministers will deal with broad issues with regards to the guidelines of the future development of the JHA area in the EU with a focus on dossiers related to justice matters such as procedural rights and international aspects of the Data Protection Regulation.

Friday 24 January

Final Conference on Health Inequalities

Informal meeting of ministers for Justice and Home Affairs, Athens

Ministers will discuss issues related to Home Affairs in particular terrorism and border security
