#EU-Turkey migration deal: State of play and next steps
Civil Liberties MEPs will debate next steps in the EU-Turkey cooperation on migration and Turkey's progress towards fulfilling requirements for visa liberalization, as agreed by the European Council in March, with the Commission on Thursday at 9.15.
Under the agreement finalized by heads of state and government at the summit on 18 March, all people arriving irregularly from Turkey to the Greek islands are to be returned, while the EU is to take in one Syrian refugee for each person sent back. Once irregular crossings from Turkey have been substantively reduced, a Voluntary Humanitarian Admission Scheme will be activated.
The deal also opened up for faster visa liberalization for Turkish citizens traveling to the EU, provided Ankara complies with the requirements.
